Booker, Conaway, New Jersey Congressional Democrats Condemn Defense Secretary Hegseth’s Decision to Detain Undocumented Immigrants at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst
July 18, 2025

“We condemn in the strongest possible terms the decision by the Trump Administration to use Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst as an immigrant detention center. This is an inappropriate use of our national defense system and military resources. Escalating a radical immigration policy that has resulted in the inhumane treatment of undocumented immigrants and unlawful deportation of U.S. citizens, including children, across the country."

July 11, 2025

"This week, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) was part of a group of 93 Congressional Democrats who filed an amicus brief Monday night in the case of Centro de Trabajadores Unidos vs. Bessent, calling on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals to block an unprecedented agreement between the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that allows immigration enforcement agents access to millions of taxpayers' confidential IRS records."

Rep. Dan Goldman Demands Transparency Around Immigration Proceedings for Unaccompanied Minors
June 23, 2025

"Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) led 77 of his colleagues in sending a bipartisan letter to the House Appropriations Subcommittee to direct the Department of Justice’s Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) to submit a report to Congress detailing the status of unaccompanied children’s immigration proceedings. The letter also asks the Committee to include language in its FY2026 report encouraging EOIR to continue using specialized juvenile dockets to improve fairness, efficiency, and child protection in immigration court proceedings.

“The immigration courts have a critical role to play in administering justice efficiently while maintaining standards that ensure due process, which can be especially difficult in proceedings where children are the sole or principal respondent.  Utilization of specialized juvenile dockets with robust anti-trafficking safeguards and child-appropriate accommodations can both help protect children from dangers and achieve much needed efficiency benefits for the backlogged immigration courts, all while improving due process in children’s cases,” the Members wrote."
